The low down on Rainbow Lattice Sunstone

Hey fellow gemstone lovers. Now I know you’ll be familiar with the warm, natural glittering sunstone and the cool, glowing moonstone, but did you know there’s a rare and extraordinary feldspar that encompasses qualities of both the day and night gem?

Well, if not, let me introduce the Rainbow Lattice Sunstone 🌈☀️

I bought a few of these not long ago because when I saw them they knocked my socks off. And here’s why…

A Treasure From One Place on Earth

Rainbow Lattice Sunstone comes from only one location on the planet: the Harts Range in Australia’s Northern Territory. This single-source origin makes it one of the rarest gemstones available today. Each piece is limited by nature, which means when you’re wearing Rainbow Lattice Sunstone, you’re carrying a treasure that very few people will ever own.

How Does It Look?

It’s actually very hard to capture Rainbow Lattice Sunstone in a single photo or even a video. It’s complex, mysterious, and exhibits many different faces.

At first glance it may look like a greyish, transparent stone with dark inclusions, but as you move it something spectacular happens:

In natural sunlight: expect glittering copper sparkles (aventurescence) dancing across the surface, sometimes flashing in unexpected bursts. The rainbow lattice inclusions come alive, revealing geometric, criss-cross patterns that catch the eye.

In soft indoor light: the body takes on a gentle warmth, and the lattice often appears more subtle, like a secret pattern only visible to the wearer.

Under direct lamp or torch light: the full rainbow effect shows itself, as the lattice structure reflects and refracts into shimmering colours, almost like oil on water or stained glass.

When tilted at different angles: no two views are ever the same. Sometimes you see coppery glitter, sometimes the ghostly shimmer of moonstone-esque adularescence, and then, as if by magic, the colourful lattice flashes across the surface.

Why It’s So Rare

The rainbow lattice effect comes from hematite and magnetite inclusions trapped inside the feldspar crystal in a precise cross-hatch formation. This natural arrangement is what produces the rainbow interference colours. Unlike other gems, this phenomenon hasn’t been found anywhere else in the world, only in this tiny pocket of Australia.

Because of this, Rainbow Lattice Sunstone is considered a collector’s gemstone. It’s not mass-produced, and the mine yields only small quantities, making each stone even more precious.

The Metaphysical Side

For those drawn to gemstones for their energetic properties, Rainbow Lattice Sunstone is said to combine the uplifting joy of sunstone with the dreamy intuition of moonstone.

It’s believed to:

Empower its wearer to find inner strength and confidence

Encourage positive change

Support natural leadership qualities

So….

If you’re looking for something that stands out from the crowd and feels like your own little secret of the Earth, Rainbow Lattice Sunstone might just be the gemstone for you. 🌈
